The detail

A mark only the wearer finds

The front of this piece is a single unbroken line. A mark on it would break the line and turn a form into a label. So the name is laser-engraved on the back stem, reading down, where it is found by the person wearing it and by nobody else.

Quiet on the outside. Certain on the inside.

Chain and extender

Sixteen inches, or twenty

Every pendant arrives on a 16″ chain with a 4″ extender in the same finish as the piece — yellow gold with yellow, white with white. Lobster clasp, four adjustment loops. Clip it at the first loop and the cross sits at the collarbone. Run it to the last and it drops below a shirt collar.

Nothing to buy separately, and nothing to send back for a resize.

How it is made

Hand-finished, and built to stay that way

Every piece is polished and finished by hand, then checked before it is boxed. This is not costume jewellery, and it is not a thin flash of colour over base metal that wears off at the edges inside a year.

Solid sterling silver

A precious-metal core underneath the gold — not plated brass, not steel.

2 microns

Four times the usual

Standard flash plating runs around half a micron. Ours is two, over a barrier layer, so the colour stays where it was put.

Moissanite

Set, not glued

Grain-set along the crossbar by hand, the way a stone is meant to be held.

Where it lives

A box that keeps working

The pendant has its own box inside the outer one — cream suede, a notch that holds the chain either side so the piece sits flat and centred, the mark foiled into the lid and nothing else. It is the one you keep on the shelf once the wrapping is gone.

The box

It arrives the way it should

A hinged velvet-touch box in Olive Green, the mark in antique gold foil, a tassel pulled through a gold ring on the front edge. Inside, a lift-out insert holds the pendant box, a pouch for the extender, a drawstring pouch for travel, a cleaning cloth and the card — each in its own well.

Every gold element is foil or a tonal emboss. Nothing gold is a printed ink.

The making

Silver throughout — pendant, chain and extender — plated to two microns, four times the thickness of standard plating. Stones grain-set by hand along the crossbar. A high polish everywhere else.

The design

It was drawn as a shape before it was anything else — a line that turns once and keeps going. It took a long time to get right, and it is the reason the piece works on anyone who likes it.

Plating wears with contact, not with time. Keep it dry, put it on last and take it off first, and use the cloth in the box. Looked after, it outlasts the fashion for it.
